Day Weekend 2005: With rain threatening the outdoor jazz concerts
at Piedmont Park for the 28th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival, Waugh,
the official artist of the Jazz Festival for 2004-2007, moves his
paints and easel indoors at the Wyndham Hotel. Waugh paints live at
the hotel as various jazz greats take part in an impromptu jam session.
Waugh also designs the official poster for the Annual Jazz Festival.

May
21, 2005: As part of the "31 Days of Jazz" leading up to the 28th
Atlanta Jazz Festival, Waugh paints live to the powerful jazz vocals
of Rita Graham at The Wine Store's "Wine and Jazz" evening in Alpharetta,
GA. During the event, Waugh donates a percentage of the sale of
his art to benefit the children of the “Make a Wish Foundation.”
May
12, 2005: Waugh again paints live to benefit the children of Camp
Heartland in Minneapolis, a summer camp for children affected by HIV
and AIDS. Here he finds inspiration from the musical sensation Jacob
Dylan and the Wallflowers at the Metropolitan Ballroom in Minneapolis.
February
4, 2005: Franco Harris and Lydell Mitchell invite Waugh to appear
at their annual “Immaculate Reception & Dinner Benefit” in Jacksonville
Super Bowl week. Proceeds from the event benefit the Children’s Miracle
Network and CURE International. Waugh paints live with musical inspiration
from Allan Harris, voted “Outstanding Male Vocalist” by the New York
2004 Nightlife Awards. Not only does Waugh donate the original work
of art he paints live to the auction, but he also donates 2 original
hand-painted helmets to benefit the children as well.
January
31,2005: During a corporate event in Monterey, CA, Waugh paints
live to the heart-pounding rhythms of The Doobie Brothers in front
of hundreds of excited fans. The Doobie’s high-energy music inspires
Waugh to create “Takin’ It to the Streets” as he paints to the upbeat
lyrics and driving rhythms.
December
3, 2004: Waugh makes a surprise appearance and joins Ruffhouse at
Swig Nightclub in Weston, FL. He paints live on the dance floor,
giving the delighted audience an unexpected, but well-appreciated
demonstration of his own high-energy performance.
August
7, 2004: By special invitation, Waugh is invited to the prestigious
40th annual Metris Uptown Art Festival in Minneapolis. Waugh wows
thousands of art admiers as he paints live on the street, completing
a work of art before their eyes as music rocks the festival.
July
9-11, 2004: By special invitation, Waugh showcases his artistic talents
by painting live for festival goers at the respected 13th Annual Chicago
Tribune Magnificent Mile Art Festival on Michigan Avenue in downtown
Chicago. His performances are a big hit with the discerning art crowd
in attendance.
June
8, 2004: Waugh accepts an invitation to appear at the world-famous
BB King Blues Club on 42nd Avenue in New York City. Waugh paints
live to legendary acoustic guitarist, Tommy Emmanuel, the individual
Chet Akins called “the greatest finger picker in the world.” Emmanuel
certainly lives up to his reputation as he spurs Waugh to keep up
with Emmanuel’s rapid-fire rhythms.
Memorial
Day Weekend 2004: In a historic first, Waugh is selected by the
City of Atlanta as its official artist for the Atlanta Jazz Festival
for the years 2004-2007. Never before has an artist been selected
for more than one year at a time. Not only does Waugh design the
official Jazz Festival poster, he also paints live outdoors at the
bandstand in Piedmont Park with various jazz legends. Here he paints
to the eclectic jazz rhythms of Randy Weston and his African Rhythms
Quintet, in front of over 50,000 appreciative jazz fans.
