Montreal
artist Eric Waugh crosses the line between art and entertainment.
Waugh will create new works of art while music pulsates and the public
watches in amazement. "I get nervous about a minute before I start
painting." admits Waugh from his Montreal studio. "Then I forget everything
and just paint.
There
aren't many people who have seen someone create something from begining
to end. I love what I do and I love to share it." A self-taught artist,
Waugh has become so successful fans are willing to buy a blank canvas
with the confidence he will create something worthwhile and of beauty.
"I really don't plan a lot," he explains. "Lot's of time I am inspired
by music I am hearing the first time. I believe in spontaneity."
Waugh
used to paint only in the studio, but Jim Carter, a friend of his,
several years ago suggested he try painting to music, in public. Carter
is now Waugh's "performance agent." He also has a regular agent who
recognized Waugh's talent 17 years ago and has stayed with him ever
since. "The first time I showed my agent my work, he said,'Not too
good... Not too bad. Come back with some more.' " he relates. "When
he sold all of the paintings, he said, 'keep painting.' Since then,
many thousands of works over a seventeen year period have been sold
to collectors world wide.
Waugh
has demonstrated his spontaneous painting talents on "Good Morning
Atlanta," "Today in South Florida," the "Today Show" and other television
appearances, as well as painting live with The Rippingtons with Russ
Freeman, Jefferson Starship, Tony Bennett and Nelly Furtado.
